"Across the Square" was composed by Patty Carpenter in memory of her friend Fritz Hewitt, who died of AIDS in 1993. The Square here is Greenwich Village's Washington Square as listeners who have "hung" there on a weekend afternoon will recognize. The song is based on a moment remembered that was shared by Patty, Scott, and Fritz. Scott Shetler plays clarinet.
