Story behind the song
This is about a boy born into a very religious family... who has ADD but his parents are too blinded by their miracle that they dont even pay attention to it... he was picked on at school. and then forced into being an altar boy... where the Priest takes advantage of him and tells him not to tel on him or he will go to hell... but one day he has enough... and wants to quit... says he just wants to be a normal kid... he was having recurring dreams about the priest, but kept his word to god and dealt with it by prayer. but when this wasnt enough he is about to commit suicide, but cant go through with it coz it would be a sin, and wouldnt get into heaven... now at 20.... he gets his licence and moves out and as he is driving, he is thinkin about his terrible childhood.. and hits a young girl and kills her... and after 20 years of devotion to the lord... he cant keep him out of jail....
Lyrics
'She said I wonder when it'll be my day/
'Cause I'm not too far from breaking down/
And all I got are screams inside But somehow they come out in a smile/
And I'm wondering if I'll always feel this way, this way'
Waitin for her baby, '88 that day was crazy/
When the lady had the baby, she just prayed that it could maybe/
Be a healthy baby boy, sure enough, yes he was/
So she thanked the good lord for everything the way it was/
Lived her life in her religion, so the babys name was Christian/
Blinded by decision, didnt notice his condition/
He was growin really fast, his mind was in the past/
Confused while he prayed but was way too shy to ask/
And at school, it was cruel, gettin picked on by the kids/
He never said a thing, because he promised to forgive/
He was told to be an altar boy, he joined up at seven/
Said if he didnt do the work of god he wouldnt get to heaven/
So he served the lord yea he gladly served em/
The sadness happens right after the sermon/
Yea the priest made Christian go below the belt/
And if he told Mom and Dad he was gonna go to hell/
And thats truth/
'She said I wonder when it'll be my day/
'Cause I'm not too far from breaking down/
And all I got are screams inside But somehow they come out in a smile/
And I'm wondering if I'll always feel this way, this way'
At the age of thirteen he told his mom he's gonna quit/
Said he just wanted to be like all the normal kids/
But no she wouldnt have it, said those kids were possessed/
Said they dont deserve jesus, dont believe that they're blessed/
Coz they is usin bad words, sex and drugs/
So you stay with me until the heaven above/
So he did what he was told until he turned seventeen/
Sick of seein that priest in his recurrin dream/
No way to get revenge, he had learned to embrace it/
Thought that God woulda fix the problem so he never had to face it/
He a devout christian not in touch with the real/
Prayin every day, every night and at every single meal/
He was gods kid, gods child, gods only son/
His past caught up, and he got caught with a gun/
But he stopped, no way would he end it like this/
Coz he had but one life and wouldnt spend it like this/
And maybe you've fallen down/
And maybe you just took the long way home/
But baby, you could never love you, like me/
And one day this will fade away/
In the mirror you'll see a smilin face/
And standin next to you, will always be me, yea me/
Now at twenty, plenty problems, buildin up on em/
But he bottled em, the model of the perfect kid/
Now livin on his own he lonely, knowin he is not alone/
But noone gonna know what those sermons did/
And he was drivin, thinkin, and his mind was sinkin/
He heard a crash while his eyes were blinkin/
Heard a scream from the street, a blood curdlin scream/
Slammed the car into park, and started runnin to the scene/
Seen a little pretty girl layin bloody alone/
Realized what he done, he turned around and drove home/
He ran into his room, he glanced to the ceilin/
With blood all on his hands he asked to be forgiven/
But his gods not the law, so hes facin the court/
Tried to plead his case, with his face to the floor/
When the verdict came, he knew he heard it well/
You got 20 to life and may you burn in hell son/
Tell me about those nights you stayed awake/
Tell me about those days you hated me/
Tell me how you would rather die alone/
Then being stuck here, with me/
One day, your gonna see things, my way/
Gave me so much room that I cant break/
