Non-PC social, political, & religious commentary flavored with twisted humor. Who else sings about cannibalistic Nazi devil aliens?
Howdy! Welcome to our world. Just West of Hell isn't your normal band. We aren't PC, and we aren't concerned with perfect. We just want the spirit of what's going on to show thru. Some things are raw, most songs are done in two or three takes - total - and we have songs that are guaranteed to offend those with tender feelings. If you can hang, you'll probably get a kick out of it, and we'd love to 'have you around'. If you hate it, that's cool too. We're not for everyone, and it doesn't hurt our feelings a bit if we don't 'do it' for you! Make yourself happy, cuz life's too short!

Story behind the song
Ther are about 5 songs that have formed a sort of "musical core" for JWoH, and this is one of them. The original, poorly recorded on wimpy cassette 4 track has been cussed and discussed by us for literally years. At heart, the song is about the mindset that mortification of the flesh is good, combined with the observation that people will remain pure of purpose only so long as being impure fails to tempt them. The VILE concept of mortification, plus corruption leads to the idea that what matters is only the soul and that any atrocity is OK so long as the soul is saved - i.e. you get the Papal Inquisition. Now add in MORE politics, MORE greed, and frankly evil, and you get the Spanish Inquisition. Some of the lyrics are a bit dated - the IRA has laid down its weapons, so Belfast *isn't* littered with bodies anymore... But the sentiment could easily be transferred to any people who take ANY religion and turn it into something used to justify any horrific and inhuman thing that they choose to do. OK - PH has done a couple of dance/techno versions of this that are cool, and we'll probably put one of them up here in a bit... But for this version TM & KD were kicking around how to do an update based on the original version, when our writing/rehearsal schedule is pretty well filled. The plan we came up with was to pass the files back and forth via email or Usend it. This was necessary since we don't all live in the same city, and we all have lives / work to deal with... TM did the drums (restored from the 1989 backup tapes no less!), KD did the bass, TM did two guitar tracks, KD did two synth tracks and then 4 vocal tracks, all over the space of about three weeks, with *lots* of the files passing back and forth. This is a little different for us, at least as a way of working - It isn't as much fun as being together and getting the whole feedback loop thing going on, but it also doesn't cut into our 'new material' time... Enjoy!
