My brother and I grew up having to attend church twice a year, just as all good Lutherans do, on Christmas and Easter. The older we got, the more we realized that Lutherans, at least the ones in our community, could not keep a beat or carry a tune to save their souls, which was probably why they were at church in the first place... Anyways, one Christmas eve, way back in 1996, I thought it would be pretty funny to record a church service, to let the whole world know how awful a gaggle of Lutherans could sound. My brother and I decided rather than trying to record an actual church service, we should just try recording ourselves as we were not only card-carrying Lutherans (we know the secret handshake and each posses the special decoder ring!), but neither of us could (or still can) carry a tune to save our lives!! Thus, our first Christmas album (entitled "A Very "Special" Christmas"), was recorded back in 1997 and was given as our gift to all our family members, some of whom (die-hard Lutherans, no doubt) did not really understand that this was a comedy album of sorts. They thought we sounded pretty good, and handed out pirated copies of our CD to all their friends and extended family. We quickly developed a reputation as the "artsy-fartsy" fraction of the family to keep a wary eye on.... Every year after this first album we were hounded by friends and family regarding a follow-up album, which became a logistical nightmare due to my brother relocating to Australia for a research/teaching position. We were finally able to do something about it last year, producing an album of 9 more traditional Christmas standards, thrashed as only we could thrash them. The new album, entitled "We Basically Suck", pushed the boundaries of experimentation and bad taste to all-time highs ...or "lows", depending on how you look at it. I am offering (pun intended) two of our more "interesting" and "experimental" tunes for you to check out and have a chuckle over. = The first is an acapella version of "Hark! The herald angels sing" which has been redone in the styling of a post-death Elvis type thing and renamed "Hark! The nutty angels sing." This was recorded last year in 2002. = The second is a German-twist of "The 12 days of Christmas." Remember "Dieter" from SNL, performed by Mike Myers? That's the image I have going on here; ...German dude, all dressed in black, touching his monkey, etc., along with a special guest.

Story behind the song
Our version of the traditional Christmas song "Hark! The Herald Angel Sings" as if Elvis had been dug up from his grave and brought back to life just long enough to sing this little ditty, in his own "back from the dead" style!!
Lyrics

Joyful, all ye nations, rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th' angelic host proclaim, "Christ is born in Bethlehem." Hark! the nutty angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King! Christ, by highest heav'n adored: Christ, the everlasting Lord; Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the favored one. Hail! the heav'n-born Prince of peace! Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
