Story behind the song
After I retired in 2002 I moved back to Canada to be near my adopted native Canadian daughter and her 2 young daughters. I bought a large house so that friends and family could come over from Scotland for holidays with me and lots of folks came at first. However, nobody came last year nor this year and as my health isn't so good to care for such a large house with a big in ground swimming pool I've decided to move back to Scotland as soon as my house has been sold. When I first emigrated to Canada in 1957 I joined a local church young people's society and when we were to go to a convention each group had to make up a song to sing there. I made one up myself and the words were accepted but the others felt they wouldn't be able to learn a new tune and used my words to the tune of All Through the Night. However I always remember melodies. I incorporated it into my Peace March and now have used it together with the songs that I wrote for my grandaughters, Charley and Penny who live here and who plan to come with their mother to visit me in Scotland from time to time.
Lyrics
Farewell beloved family friends. We'll always stay in touch. For love and friendship has no ends; It's valued all so much.
Living here has been endearing.
But my health is disappearing.
So I'm selling up and clearing off to Scotland where I'll stay.
