Story behind the song
(not long after my daughter Fiona was born I wrote a book of illustrated poems and short stories for all of my girls. In this one the first verse applied to baby Fiona, the second to Moira, Mairi and Catriona and although I never had any sons I made up a third verse to apply to boys. Then many years later I added the fourth verse just to round it all off. The chorus of each verse could be sung to the tune of "That Old time Religion"
Lyrics
Gimme no pablum, juice and all. Don’t dress me up in pretties.
Just wrap me in a nice warm shawl And gimme my mummie’s titties.
Gimme them old time titties; Them good old-fashioned titties.
Gimme them old time titties; They’re good enough for me.
-----
Gimme no walkin’, talkin’ doll, No doll that pees a puddle.
No sexy, slinky, made up moll - Just a doll to love and cuddle.
Gimme an old time dolly; A good old-fashioned dolly.
Gimme an old time dolly; She’s good enough for me.
-------
Gimme no tanks nor guns - no toys of war that make me sicken.
Just gimme a field and a bunch of boys and a football made for kickin’.
Gimme an old time football; A good old-fashioned football.
Gimme an old time football; It’s good enough for me.
-------
Do not twist or trick or con us - With high and mighty deeds.
Do not lay your trips upon us. Just meet our basic needs.
Give us some old time comfort. Some love and care and comfort.
Some good old fashioned comfort. That's good enough for us.
For we're old time kiddies. We're good old fashioned kiddies.
Yes, we're old time kiddies. That should be good enough for you.
