Story behind the song
This song is about those times that you fight and argue with a loved one, but all the words seem to come out wrong.
You know you've done nothing to offend, but they still say some of the most hurtful things, causing a slight tear at your heart. You just want it all to stop, so you forgive, but you just can't forget.
It starts to become a cycle, a routine.
Lyrics
Our Routine
Been sitting here for hours,
we haven't gotten anywhere.
Dancing around the subject,
silence shattered by your icy glare.
Words flow out but have no meaning,
and hurt is in the air.
What have I done to deserve this?
So for this once, I'll try to forgive,
but I can't forget all those things you've said and done.
Why can't we just get along?
*One kind word is all I'm asking.
One kind word would take this pain away.
One kind word could get me through this, but
One kind word seems too much from you now.*
The clock has stuck 11,
and still we haven't moved.
If time will make the difference,
then I'm not prepared to follow through with this charade.
And now I'm thinking that my heart has come unglued.
Say this numbness will go away.
So for this once, I'll try to forgive,
but I can't forget all those things you've said and done.
Why can't we just get along?
