Story behind the song
a long song. wrote the words a long time ago in high school one night, staying up late as usual could never cram the ol' self into the damn "bed at 9:30 up at 7:00" just to be run through a beaurocratic purposeless obstacle course where the main point is just to stay as alert as possible and forget about enjoyment "and all of such nonsense." then later i put the music down. me and the drummer were just going to put down the basic bassline one day and we wound up blasting away for 10 minutes before we were done, which is how the improv bassline came out. a little cut and paste, but basically it's the straight jam all the way through. for the guitar solos, there are many tracks, most of them lasting the duration of the song when they were recorded. there are three forward solo tracks, three backward ones, and two or three "joke" ones, just squeaks and scratches and stuff. after recording them all i faded each in and out where i thought it would sound good, blending and alternating them at the same time, and the result is this song. the whining yuppies were: danny merrill, bass (he only does a little riff in the beginning two verses or so of this song, the rest of the bass is me); jessica schmidt, drums; and me, elvin meadows, on guitar and vocals.
