Bryan O'Quinn was one of the few underground dance music artists to enjoy negligible mainstream exposure during the late 80s and early 90s heyday of hip-hop soul. O'Quinn's smooth seductive crooning style and exciting dance moves earned him a significant female following and made him a presence on the up and coming R&B, dance and underground house music scene. Even after industry grimier brands of output eclipsed the ultramodern love stories OQuinn favored, he transitioned his music into the more retro-leaning neo-soul movement, as it was honest and inevitable.

Story behind the song
... with old-school crooning and new-school beats, his dance background and classic soul influences, which include Smokey Robinson ,Philip Bailey, Ten City and Prince, Bryan O'Quinn created a unique and natural sound for himself, blending classic soul arrangements with contemporary r&b and hip- hop beats. Dig it was initially created totally by chance through one of those live unplanned moments on stage in 1993 as an improvisational jazz piece that came to vocalist. One night at a hip-hop open mic forum in Charlotte NC (Cafe Da Da) Bryan was watching and listening to several rappers freestyle over a beats, O'Quinn spontaneously took the mic and began to freestyle singing jazzy riffs over the beats . The crowd instantly responded to O'Quinn's uniquely pitched vocal performance as his presence and vigor shifted the energy in the room upward, the groove was nice , he was in the pocket and on the beat ; he instructed the audience knod your heads and simultaneously the did as Bryan O'Quinn crooned cafe da da dadah .Can you dig baby am tryin to give this love to you oo The crowd was eating out of the palm of his hand. He was so smooth lol
Lyrics
Dig it (underground quiet storm cellar mix) Written and recorded by Bryan O'Quinn 1993 BSM Entertainment and Records Chant: da da dah da da dah da da dah Chorus: Can you dig it baby Im trying to give my love to you? To you and no one but you, I thought you knew Can you dig it baby I said I need more of your time not a part-time fling, I want the real thing plus overtime It was early in the morning you called up to say just to say hi I see you are at home on your one phone I know you were not there last night When I needed you like freedom through the cold and dark of night My emotions were torn asunder I needed help to mend them tight I do not take love lightly its literally if its there I take it to the max One woman plus one man ultimately that equals ultimately you and me tell me do you understand the facts Chant: da da dah da da dah da da dah Chorus: Can you dig it baby Im trying to give my love to you? To you and no one but you, I thought you knew Can you dig it baby I said I need more of your time not a part-time fling, I want the real thing plus overtime By you posing as a dream you only fill my heart with sorrow That floods the home I built for you I thought romance would spell tomorrow You see I wanted you like freedom and I needed you like rain As would an Arab man while on the desert as he crossed the widest plain Oh tell me lover what can I do to make this true you make my light shine brighter in the dark. But that doesnt mean you can treat me any (just treat me right) Im gonna leave you for to long Im getting stronger everyday. Chant: Chorus:
