Queen of the East Parking Lot
I am a solo recording artist who has been composing songs and recording my own projects for more than 30 years.
Story behind the song
At my 20 year high school class reunion, which was a while ago now, I ran into the step sister of a girl named Lynn who I had a major crush on in junior high. Laurie told me that Lynn had died of cancer just a few years earlier. This song is for her.
Lyrics
Queen of the East Parking Lot
words and music by Peter Day
I was nobody
Except to somebody like her
She was so kind
She stilled my teenage blur
In shop I made a sterling ring
She put it on her hand
"Your so lucky," Tom said
But luck, I couldn't understand
CHORUS:
She was so hot
She was the queen of the east parking lot
When we got to high school
We both went separate ways
I joined the track squad
She found the parking lot haze
One day I ventured
Into East Lot territory
A ruffian stopped me
But she said, "He's cool. Let him go free"
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
At the 20 year reunion
I asked her sister how she was
"Didn't you hear?
She died of cancer to years ago."
"Why, why, why?"
I asked
"Just because"
I was nobody
Except to somebody like her
She was so kind
She stilled my teenage blur
Her name was Lynn
That's where my love would begin
She was so much better than all the rest
CHORUS
