Story behind the song
This was a song I wrote when I was 16 and had been going through a usual phase of: I want to play guitar, but never had the patience or the 'gift', but a song came out of it. Route 9 is a major highway in New Jersey lined with diners, if you care to know. Haven't sent it to Toyota yet as a commerical song, don't think it would fly.
Lyrics
one day i'll be out of here/
and one day i'll be gone/
and the vodka will be my water/
i said/ one day, one drink farther
Chorus:
i'm gonna take a ride in the toyota corolla
i'm gonna take a ride in the toyota corolla
speed limit 45/ but we can't go faster
i'm taking it in/ i'm taking it in/ i'm takin it in/
with you as my driver
i'm gonna take a ride in the toyota corolla
we're gonna take a ride in the toyota corolla
the window's down/ a marlboro is in our mouth/
it's in our lungs/ it's in our blood/ it's our brain-
it's in the ashtray at the diner on route 9
one day dust will be clean/
and the monks will catch our disease/
and i'll nestle in the ironed flag/
cuz then i'll be proud to be an American.
