Story behind the song
Cleaning out a bookcase the other day, I found this recording I did back in the early 90's. I cleaned it up, sweetened it, and decided to post it here. It's the only song I ever wrote that scared me once I'd finished it. I was at kind of a bitter but still inspired place at the time.
Lyrics
I've got broken teeth and holes in both my shoes
A tongue that stumbles and a heart that's bent and bruised
I'm a cloud whose lining's been neglected and abused
But here I am
So come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord of Glory
Come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord of Glory
I'm a wanderer searching for a place to stand
The voice to reach beyond a wall of shaking hands
And for the joy of walking with a friend who loves the Planner
Not the plan
So come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord of Glory
Come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord of Glory
Where is the heart that's pouring out like water
Where are the feet that walk gladly through the rain
Where are the hands that let go and reach for Heaven
When will God's glory be made plain
I've got broken teeth and holes in both my shoes
But my one prayer's for every heart that's bent and bruised
To fall healed and broken, pouring out the glory due
The Son of Man
So come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord of Glory
Come let's drink what's poured
And follow the Lord
