Story behind the song
"For My Lady" is a 1973 single by the English progressive rock band The Moody Blues. It was written by band member Ray Thomas and was first released on the 1972 album Seventh Sojourn. It later appeared on the B-side of the single I'm Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band) in 1973. It is also one of the most popular Moody Blues song written by Ray Thomas, along with "Legend of a Mind", and "Veteran Cosmic Rocker."
Lyrics
My boat sails stormy seas Battles oceans filled with tears At last my ports in view Now that Ive discovered you Oh Id give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady As life goes drifting by Like a breeze shell gently sigh And slowly bow her head Then youll hear her softly cry. Oh Id give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady Words that you say when were alone Though actions speak louder than words But all I can say is I love you so To drive away all my hurt Oh Id give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady Set sail before the sun Feel the warmth thats just begun Share each and every dream They belong to everyone. Oh Id give my life so lightly For my gentle lady Give it freely and completely To my lady
