Story behind the song
This song was a bit of self-therapy, reminding myself that although my life was pretty sorted in the little niche I'd carved, that I don't want to just stick to the easy life I know, and I was about to move abroad.
Lyrics
How many times were you a big fish in a small pond?
Everybody knows you.. the phone is always ringing.
When it comes to play, you know where to find the sand.
Driving in your car, fingers tapping on the wheel, always singing….
Hey there Big Fish, I know your name,
Hey there Big Fish, things are always the same.
Hey there Big Fish, when you gonna buck,
Swimming always in the same direction, how you gonna change your luck?
Familiar Streets, weekly routines, and safe homely nest,
Somewhere in the back of your mind, a voice says ‘move on…’
You know when dinners on the table, coffee in the morning, and all the rest.
There’s your favourite comfy chair, can you face all this been gone…..
(can you face it?)
Hey there Big Fish, I know your name,
Hey there Big Fish, things are always the same.
Hey there Big Fish, when you gonna buck,
Swimming always in the same direction, how you gonna change your luck?
