Lyrics
Written by John Gary Bovay © 1992 INTRO (Organ elbows the vocal melody.) VERSE 1: I'm bored of closing down every bar. And weaving through a lot full of cars. Tryin' to find my own. CHORUS A: With my chequebook's last page. I just, might reach old age. If I try out, and dry out like the 'stars'. 'Beats laying there and being admired. While they say “he used to look tired.” Then cruisin' in a Caddie au noir. Towards a setting sun that is mired. By six feet of haze. VERSE 2: Just, look around... Happy healthy folks are to be found. Who are not slaves! They look up and around. Gravity is all that holds them down. Day after day. CHORUS B: If, I, try this time. Really try this time. I can pin my hopes on joining some day. Make habit's fog lift from my bay. (Who knows?) Maybe I'll have something to say. 'Sure beats what I have ev-er-y day. A, psychotic stew of induced malaise. What a waste of time! VERSE 3: Well, I had a talk... With some folks who said “take a walk, down to 109 Knox..” Once there, some friends I knew I had found. For they said “why don't you stick around, and rest up, then we'll talk.” CHORUS C: So, I, shared my daze. With those who are this way. And God I hoped we'd all would find. A slake without a swizzle and lime. A trip without a twist of the mind. A crystal view of that straight line. A richer use of remaining time. That would be O.K! BREAK A (follows changes for half a verse) 12-string Guitar lead. (and upward modulation) VERSE 4: Real words that aren't just talk. From those who've been there and still walk. Are helping me to-day! Hair-raising tales they tell. From, before they found HIM and got well. Proves there is a way. CHORUS D: A better use of time. Requires a clear mind. And amnesia for yesterday. Tomorrow is on the way. Today is what is now being weighed. If life's a book, take it page by page. A rich path to a ripe old age. Yeah! All in good time! TURNAROUND: Now I! CHORUS E: Share my days. With those who are this way. And GOD I hope we all will find. A slake without a swizzle and lime. A trip without a twist of the mind. A crystal view of that straight line. A richer use of remaining time. 'Cause there's no better way! BREAK B (12-string Guitar does a downward cascade.) OUTRO (Follows changes for verse and a quarter.) ENDING END.
