Story behind the song
It was at my buddy Fred's bachelor party back in 2000. We had just come from a rousing game of paintball ... half the crew rolled back to the house, the rest of us hit the bar. As we sat there, this older guy who was sitting at the bar alone busted out with a song from who knows when and when he was done, everyone in the place burst out in applause. It was one of the craziest things I've seen ... and I've seen a bit. Anyhow, I went up to talk with him ... turned out, he'd led a very interesting life and just liked to sing. His point? Life's too short. It really made me think. I realized how important it is to just get up and get out the door. If you don't, this great big world can get very small.
Lyrics
ripple it’s a rainy tuesday afternoon i’m out of work and i don’t know what to do turn on the tv try to be all i can be but i get bored quick with the same old shit and like the rest of you i’m sick of it all being the same day day in and out and out and in we go and as it goes well so it goes and goes ‘til we follow and so it comes that i must go but to tell the truth i just don’t know if i ever will same rainy tuesday afternoon still home and no clue what to do nothing on the tv but cartoons and yesterday’s news motivate and head outside surprised to find a cloudless sky i missed resting on the inside and side to side we slide we ride across the tide of time and time to time it’s fine not to follow and so it comes that i must go gone at once then once i know i’m off off to find a little ripple in my mind slip a little ripple in my mind i’m looking for a ripple for my mind throw another rock and get a ripple in my mind i hit a bar not far from here ordered a beer and peered over the rim at him he was me at sixty years i said hello we started to chat he told me stories of where he was at sick of it all being the same day and so he sang a song a song that came from god knows when and when he was done we all applauded him and then it came that i had come to the right place at the right time to find…
