Story behind the song
This is a song I've been using as a soundcheck for years. But until last year, I never had words for it. I'd just mumble a few things, hitting on some great stuff and some not-so-great stuff. Well, I was camping in Acadia Nat'l Park with my family back in the fall of '07, the kid was down, my wife and I, sitting around the fire. I was playing guitar. She was lost in thought. And as I started strumming this easy but pretty chord progression that I'd been playing for years, I sang the words that are now 'Soundcheck'. When I finished, I looked at Alison and said, "Not bad, huh?" To which, she replied, "What?" Like I said, she was lost in thought. But I went straight to the car and wrote down what I remembered of the words. By the time we were back home, the song was finished.
Lyrics
waiting wisk me over the mountains fly me to the sea i’m dying to see it and see you’ll find me over the mountains waiting for you, waiting for you there’s a fire in a final thing burning up everything else there’s a diamond in every mountain, never gon’ be felt there’s a mama knitting in every home thoughts of being on her own and it’s a long long road to love alone, won’t you… wisk me over the mountains fly me to the sea i’m dying to see it and see you’ll find me over the mountains waiting for you, waiting for you
