Myself performing the jazz standard, The Very Thought of You, orginially performed by Billy Holiday. Wonderful blues type song, directly consequent to the era from which it came.
In my understanding of this song, a jazz standard originally performed by Billy Holiday, the vocalist is looking to portray the sense of loss and longing that comes with missing someone. Whether this occurs through a break-up, death or seperation via movement is not directly present in the song. However, the gloomy mood insinuated by the piano accompaniement tells us that the song is inspired by the dire need of an unseen prescence. I tried to capture this aspect in my performance.
