Singer-songwriter, arranger and producer: acoustic contemporary folk but ranging into rock/blues/country/jazz/humour...all very eclectic, I'm afraid!
Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
The apparently obligatory C&W number - but the lyrics arrived in Wyoming so fair enough - and it is true, I do hate to just miss things... The pedal steel is actually one sampled note that's been squashed, streched, bent and generally manipulated within Soundforge... perhaps it would have been simple to buy a steel guitar, but it keeps me off the streets.
Lyrics
You know I hate to just miss things I’d rather miss by a mile If you’d have said I had no chance then I could just smile You know I hate to just miss things it may seem funny my friend Then I take my eye of the ball and hey damn! I just missed it again (D A G) D A G A You know I hate so see a train just pulling out the station If I’d’ve jumped that ride it would have filled me with elation I hate to see that last pin teetering on the gulley If I’d have left a split you know I wouldn’t give a worry We came close – you know we got it started And then you walked away and left me broken hearted We really had it going – if only for a minute But now I wish I’d never thought we might begin it
