Story behind the song
This is about the Old Covenant/New Covenant dichotomy. I was taught to blow off the finished work of the Lord, but learned that what I treated with contempt, was the truth. This song is about that point of transition. I don't sing but somebody needs to do the demo.
Lyrics
What can I do I’m asking you? Make the balance even. What I have is from what I’m receiving. Can I bring you, maybe silver and gold, Diamonds or strings of pearls, Fish from the depths below, Out of what belongs to you? That’ll do. I don’t think so. Can I give my energy? The fruit of deep thinking Can I buy some time to improve the ending? Can I try, And bring forth what you desire, Work hard and acquire some offering, Something equal to what’s owing? That’ll do. I don’t think so. Maybe I should check out this thing I heard about There’s one who cares for everyone, he’s paid my bill What can I do I’m wasting time? Who said it’d be easy? I know that I’m falling behind. Just a little more time, I can achieve my own transcendency. So goes the theory, And the years of vain activity. That’ll do. I don’t think so.
