Story behind the song

We were playing in a "new wave" bar in Green Bay, in about 1989 - it was a biker bar the night before, and the owner thought he'd update to the "latest" trend - "latest" being entirely relative in GB, and usually about 10 years behind the third coast - and we had a new drummer who was very, very good, but we only had 2 sets worth of stuff, what would be called alternative today, and they wanted 3, so we stretched, and then they wanted more, so the bass player started playing and singing that song at about 1:45 AM - so all of these "new wave" GB folks in a hodge-podge of narrow ties and leather coats and tie-dye t-shirts were slam dancing in front, while back at the bar the hog riding guys had been beering it up for hours, and dang it if they didn't start bellowing along with the song..."if I only had a brain"...it was a beautiful, odd moment...anyway, a few years ago the song called out again...
