Story behind the song
A reminder of what children went through during the nuclear disaster at Chornobyl ... something we should keep in mind as the world builds more nuclear power stations, despite better safeguards. And the children still need assistance.
Lyrics
Grass on the mountainside swaying in the morning breeze Children of Chornobyl waiting out their destiny They share their little houses with radioactivity Children of Chornobyl waiting out their destiny Waiting through their silent spring Still waiting while the snow falls No warning was given no word for three days The sun shone and the children they played Lying in pain in a cold room all medicine out of reach How can it be there's not enough will to ease their suffering Where's our politicians, where's the fund from taxes Children of Chornobyl wait 'til breathing lapses Where's Bobby Geldorf, where's the United Nations Children of Chornobyl can their nightmare teach us Exclusion zones don't mean a thing to an invisible enemy Creations imperfect fill babies' homes to bursting Waiting through their silent spring Still waiting while the snow falls No warning was given, no word for three days When are we going to answer their call Lying in pain in a cold room all medicine out of reach How can it be there's not enough will to ease their suffering A hundred million curies carried on the wind and rain Forests and rivers beautiful but deadly Where's Bobby Geldorf, where's the United Nations Children of Chornobyl how can we ignore them
