In the still of the evening An old man walks the night While the whole world is sleeping He just thinks about his life A voice cuts through the silence And the shadows take the night He can feel the eyes upon him now But there's not another soul in sight So he turns to face the darkness Though he knows there's no one there And the emptyness surrounds him now He can feel it in the air So he cries out from his madness As it echos through the sky And the lonleyness runs through his heart As the tears fall from his eyes Now the dawn is approaching As the sunlight claims the sky Not a word is spoken As the old man passes by And his head is full of thunder Confusion fills his mind The past is far behind him now The future's so unkind Now the strangers gaze upon him He can feel the empty stares But no one reaches out for him Cause no one really cares Well he's seen so many changes And he's heard so many lies And the ones he loved were taken from him Right before his eyes So take some time to understand him He doesn't ask for much A few kind words and a little smile A simple human touch
