Story behind the song
Wrote the original 30 min. version with a group of emotionally disturbed first and second graders at Lynch Elem School in Redmond. Cut it down for record, applies to adults and the many hats we where.
Lyrics
Sub-Personality Blues © Allan Byer 7/89, revised 9/98 Verse progression: Blues in G, three chords, I use this jazz fingering thing, you’ll recognize them and help me name them. I can also play it in A for higher range if you prefer. Harmonica solo intro Verse 1 So many people inside my head Sometimes I just want to stay in bed. Who’s gonna come out to play today? Sure hope the bad parts stay away. I’m in control, you know I am When I use the Wise Part Within. Verse 2 Meet Angry Alex and sad sad Sue. They want to get to know you. Chasing them around all day. Doesn’t leave much time to play. We’ve all got many parts inside. Which one to choose, you decide. Verse 3 Think nice thoughts and my special place. Use positive self-talk; it’s no disgrace. I’m ok. You know I am. When I use the Wise Part Within. I breath deep to keep things whole. I don’t have to let my bad sides show. (Harp or Guitar or Sax or other instrument break). Verse 4 Sub-personality Blues today. So many personalities; what can I say? None of them are really hoods. They just need to be understood. We’ve all got many parts inside. Which one to use, you decide. Repeat verse 1 to end
