Story behind the song
"Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war" - Shakespeare's Julius Caesar should have been warning to our own Caesar but it was not to be so. This song was inspired by separate incidents that I tied together. Beware simplistic world views...they belie the real nature of things.
Lyrics
A longshoreman named Bobby found a gig on the side For years he looked the other way when the heroin arrived Then the union lost the wharf and he was forced to take a cut in pay He slipped over to the dark side on an ordinary day After senior year, Bobby’s brother Jesse signed his youth away Enlisted because 9/11 made him want to make the bastards pay Months later in Fallujah he felt like he was losing his way Patrolling Hades’ lowest levels on an ordinary day Oh……………………….. on an ordinary day Bobby hit the big time when a big deal finally came his way He made his first suitcase of money the old fashioned way Buying kilos on the docks stuffed in a gym bag with his socks and aftershave Selling them for ten times what he paid on an ordinary day In Afghanistan a Taliban chieftain gets a suitcase full of cash Poppy profits buy a lot of bombs to help the great jihad One week later in Fallujah a suicide bomber found his prey Bobby’s brother Jesse lost his life on an ordinary day Oh………………………on an ordinary day
