Remind Us Why

A song about staying focused.
Thanks for looking! I decided to set this account up just for fun. I'm purely an amateur musician, but enjoy it enough to dabble now and again in a little songwriting. I would love any constructive critiques about my work. I hope you enjoy what you hear.

Story behind the song
The inspiration for this song came during a Sunday service. During the Lord's Prayer, I noticed that people all around church were looking anything but prayerful as they talked to their kids, looked at watches, etc. It was about that time that my conscience (who I think is really my guardian angel in disguise) kindly asked me if I wouldn't mind praying instead of criticizing others for not paying attention when they should be praying. I'm reasonably certain that my guardian angel is Irish. Only the Irish have such a dry sense of sarcasm.
Lyrics
Remind Us Why By: Patrick McGuire All of the words we remember. All of the songs are well known. The music has such wondrous timbre. And I sometimes think that perhaps it has moved me alone. The meanings are lost in the meter; The message confused with the rhyme. The cantor presumes to be leader. The harmonies muffle the words of the one who has died. Have we moved so far in this world that we’ve become lost In our righteous upbringing? We casually mumble the words but remain lost in thought. God in heaven! Can you please remind us? There’s more than the verse. There is more than the chorus. Remind all your people the reason is praise when we sing! The words he once taught us flow smoothly. The weight they should carry dissolves. Do we really believe that we truly Converse with the Lord God Almighty with any resolve? And our children are taught to speak clearly, So that all of their prayers can be heard. They recite and we cherish them dearly. And they live out their lives with no meaning attached to the words. Are we so secure, we can coldly restate every phrase? Can the words alone save us? He suffered so dearly to teach us now look how we gaze At the floor; at the wall; out the window! Retrieve our humility; do we think that He won’t know. Open our minds, close our eyes and take heed. Then perhaps He will grant us the vision we need! Please Father, remind us how much it should mean…. When we pray. When we pray. When we sing. When we pray.
