On November 20th, 2004, he and members of online fan forum fionahaswings founded the website FreeFiona.com, a campaign to Sony/BMG Music (the parent label of Epic Records) for the release of Fiona Apple's allegedly shelved third studio album, Extraordinary Machine. Through the efforts of the campaigners and members of fan fora FionaHasWings, NeverIsAPromise, BeyondTheRubicon, and others, the album, re-recorded and produced by Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem) was released on October 4th, 2005, debuting at Number 7 on the Billboard Charts (her highest debut charting to date). Extraordinary Machine was later nominated for a Grammy Award (Best Pop Vocal Performance) and RIAA-certified “Gold,” selling more than 500,000 copies in the United States. Dave Muscato has appeared in Rolling Stone, People, Time, The New York Times, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard Magazine, and on MTV News, VH1, NPR, MSNBC, ABC, Kevin & Bean/KROQ in LA, and Howard Stern as founder of the Free Fiona campaign. Muscato lives in Columbia, Missouri. He performs on electric bass with Treasure Junkie, an electric RUNK trio, and on acoustic guitar and bass with SanSerif, an acoustic funk & jazz duo. He is also founder of the animal-welfare charity SOMBFAF, a Missouri real estate broker, and classical guitar composer and solo performer.
