Very grim, Springsteenesque story of a police officer who finds his life coming full circle at a hotel fire.

It's called Maximum Honky Tonk, and no one plays it like Bob Wire. Country, blues, rockabilly, folk, and some good ol' rock and roll. Honest, smart and funny.
Funniest blog on the web? Judge for yourself at NewWest.net/BobWire. You won't regret it. I swear. This is Butt-twitchin' country music for adults with a brain and a sense of humor! Bob Wire writes catchy, original songs with a twisted perspective that puts him way out in the left field of Nashvegas. Bob sez: Hank Jr. is the disease, and Hank Sr. is the cure.

Story behind the song
I have been asked by a few songwriters why I don't change the ending of this song to be more upbeat. My answer is that life is not always upbeat. I want to give the listener some credit for being able to handle a less-than-happy ending.
Lyrics
Smoke on the horizon means there’s trouble up ahead Radio dispatcher says a couple of people dead I hit my lights and siren, she tells me the address Something starts to tighten in my chest I can see the fire from a half a mile away The Hotel Maximillian has seen her final day Several engine companies are trying to gain control Another fire is burning in my soul The Hotel Maximillian is where we used to live Long before I joined up with the force After mama left us we tried to forge ahead But my old man would never stay the course Not one sober day since their divorce The seven story building is now engulfed in flame In the panic and the chaos I hear someone call my name I turn to see a paramedic standing with a man In a blanket with a bottle in his hand The man looks like he’s 80, but I know he’s 59 He told the paramedic he’s a relative of mine I look my daddy in the eye and slowly shake my head I don’t think so, my whole family’s dead The Hotel Maximillian is where we used to live Long before I joined up with the force After mama left us we tried to forge ahead But my old man would never stay the course Not one sober day since their divorce
