Story behind the song
I learned Scottish country dancing at primary school and once learned it's never forgotten. I am now a member of a local Scots country dance group which I attend once a week and also go to their dinner dances several times a year. I'd already composed a reel, a jig and a schottische and I decided to do a strathspey to complete the selection as a strathspey was always a great favourite of mine and most others too. I incorporated some of the melodies from my piece: Pick it up and fling it which I originally wrote for my grandchildren
