Story behind the song
I originally wrote this piece for my daughters in memory of the love once shared with my ex wife and have now arranged
it as an instrumental piece
Lyrics
A love, once shared, has died and gone.
And yet, the mem’ry lingers on.
A love no longer in ascendance
Is still alive in our descendants.
I met her first at summer camp and felt an instant spark
That kindled love and caused my lamp to shine out through the dark.
We stood in dignity and wonder
Together on our wedding day,
And vowed to love till death should sunder
But that love has faded all away.
I thank Almighty God for giving those gifts from heav’n above.
Those tiny, new-born, perfect, living expressions of our love.
For then our love was sure and strong.
It held through thick and thin
And each new life that came along
Was cherished there within.
Our children grew in love’s enclosure.
Their welfare, nearest to the heart,
Sustained throughout the harsh exposure
When their parent’s marriage split apart.
The broken ends do not quite meet;
And yet, the circle is complete.
Our love renews its full resplendence
In ev’ry one of our descendants.
And still, I thank the Lord for giving those gifts from heav’n above.
Now fully grown, they’re perfect living mementos of our love.
Arise, like phoenix from the embers,
To soar and ev’ry gap transcend.
The love that died is born anew and shines in ev’ry one of you:
The circle of a love that has no end
