Story behind the song
A friend who played the clarsach had been asked to choose a traditional Scots melody and record it for the clan Menzies (pronounced Mingiss) Society of which she was a member. She chose Braigh Loch Iall (Braes of Lochiel) but as she was unable to harmonize it she asked me if I'd arrange it for her. I did and I understood her difficulties as she'd been trying to use regular major chords whereas traditional Scots music was pentatonic or modal rather than tonal. She appreciated my arrangement though I don't know if she ever got round to using it as we've long lost touch. However, I retained a copy for my own use.
