Justice or Just Us

Are we members of communities
Are we residents of our cities
Are we citizens of our countries
Are we patriots of humanity
Do we only care about our race
Or do we care about every human face
Do we care for children everywhere
Do we care if some live in despair
Do we have concern for all the world
Concern for little boys and girls
Do we have concern for people
Or only flags and steeples
Is it justice…or just us
I really want to know
Is it justice, or just us
Are some above and some below
Does it matter just how many die
Does it matter where they are or why
If they die by machetes or knives
Are they simply lesser human lives
Does color matter when black babies die
Is it easier to hear their mothers’ cry
Can we close our eyes, ignore the truth
Even when we’re given all the proof
And once the killing has begun
There’s rarely anywhere to run
From horrors great and unforseen
Caught in some political machine
Is it Justice, or just us
I really want to know
