Story behind the song
This is from when I was an elementary school music teacher. It was September of my first year teaching, and I was working with first grade class. I was about to teach a new song and said "The song I'm about to teach you a song..." and felt my nose about to run heavily, and interjected "well, after I blow my nose..." Immediately a hand shot up and a voice said "You're going to teach us a song called After I Blow My Nose?" I laughed and said, "No...but that's a great idea!" I promised that class the song by the end of the school year, and here it is!

Many years ago, I mean way back when, I was picking flowers for my new friend because I

So I ran on over to her house and I snuck up on her like a mouse
I gave them to her she said, "They smell so sweet!" I said, "They do?"
She said, "You mean you can not smell their scent? Is there something wrong with your nasal vent?
You just put them right up to your nose and you take a whiff, that's how it goes."
Althought I tried it, I did fail, because through my nose I could not inhale.
I was confused - were my nostrils incomplete?
I wanted to hide and to run off down the street.
But then her mom appeared, wearing shoes that were bright blue
"Come inside," she said, "I know just what to do for you.
Take this tissue, and hold it in your hand.
Put it to your nose and blow real hard and life will smell real grand."

Now it's a few years later, like maybe fourteen, and our friendship has been peachy keen
Sometimes we go out dancing, or to the zoo. When my friend's around there's so much to do!
One day she called and said "Hey come eat, I have cooked you up a tasty treat!
I've made you your absolute favorite type of food!" I said "Alright!"
My friend's the only person besides me who can stand eating pickled lasagna with chocolate spam
It's my favorite food, how I love the taste, but you just can't find it anyplace.
Anyway, I sat at her table and took a bite, but my mouth was in for an awful fright.
For some odd reason, it tasted much like dirt.
If I told her that then her feelings would be hurt...
But then I heard a voice echoing inside my head.
"Come inside" (it was her mom!) "We'll make that food taste great instead.
When your nose is stuffed up tight, you can not taste your food
So get a tissue and blow your nose, then you won't have to be rude."
