Old Lady's Lullaby (sung by Sarah White)
A sad but inspirational song about long lasting love. This original version is sung by Sarah White and it's been kindly played on BBC Radio Lancashire quite a lot in the past by the Late Joe Fish.
I'm easily inspired either by personal experiences, things said in conversation, being given a challenge, or being moved or amused by something. Many genres.
Story behind the song
A sad but inspirational song about long-lasting love. This original version is sung by Sarah White and it's been kindly played on BBC Radio Lancashire quite a lot in the past, by the late Joe Fish.
There's also a touching male version kindly recorded for me by Elijah Cane of the USA.
INSPIRATION
It was inspired when one of my daughters was about to get married. She asked me what I thought may be the secret of couples who stay truly happy and in love until they die.
I feel it's to do with having mutual love, respect and empathy, and making happy memories which can be called upon.
I wrote the song as it is for my daughter that night.
Review by the late Joe Fish -BBC RADIO LANCASHIRE

"Old Lady's Lullaby" has a haunting, instantly appealing quality which leaves the listener feeling compelled to play it over and over again.
It has beautiful lyrics and melody, a delightfully constructed story-line and it also has the "simple power" to enthral audiences of any kind of music.
I am convinced that in the right hands, with the right kind of promotion, this song will be a huge success.
Lyrics
The old lady with the grey braided hair,
Is settled in a family heirloom, old rocking chair,
The gentleman beside her is her own gentle man,
Hes laboured hard and done the best he can.
The colours from the fire flicker round the cosy room,
As the dear old man plays his melancholy tune,
And the pleasure can be measured by the teardrop in her eye,
As he sings the old ladys lullaby
CHORUS
Go to sleep my loving one, rest your weary mind,
Go to sleep my precious one, you know Im right behind you,
Id give my life if I could mend you
Ill be with you to the end.
The memories filter through the embers, lighting up their eyes,
And words of love come easy when youre wise,
They talk of all the tandem rides and first time round for tea,
The love they have is obvious to see.
Id give my life if I could mend you
Ill be with you to the end.
Ill be with you to the end.
