Story behind the song
I have long been a huge fan of the Zabrocki Brothers two of the least alike identical twins anyone could ever think of. As different as they are, they are both enormously talented and I am blessed to have them as friends. Ron was producing and singing on Journey to Forgiveness and of course, I wanted to have Michael's input as well. Michael very much wanted to sing Only in God (the John Michael Talbot song) which was fine with me but I also needed a song for the Fifth Station, "Simon Helps Jesus by Carrying the Cross". Michael offered to write something special and knowing what a wonderful songwriter he is, I took him right up on the offer. The result was the soulful "Simon's Song". Simon couldn't know how important his humble offering would remain more than 2000 years later. Clearly, we've appreciated his example by never turning away from someone in need.
Lyrics
SIMON'S SONG Words and Music: Michael Zabrocki Behold the man, broken and bleeding Hardly moving now; His sad eyes pleading He looks like he may die. Soldiers calling me, they grab my hand This can't be happening; I don't understand Then I look into His eyes. I see the scars of pain, the eyes of love The blood of Man, the very heart of God And I see the tree of pain, the wood of love The death of a man, the very plan of God. And I bow my head to receive his cross. As i walk by his side I know what it cost All my pride, all my fears, All the sins that I hold dear I carried that day in His Cross. There's no turning back; life can't be the same As we walk along I'm forever changed It's not death but victory! I see Jesus Pain, Jesus Love, Jesus the man, Jesus the Son of God.
