Intro
Oh…..And so it was... And so it was....
NARRATIVE
This is an old Lenape legend that dates back centuries ago,
There was a Winter when all the animals were trapped by the snow…
Verse 1
Great white flakes kept on fallin’,
The sun don’t shine, and animals are dyin’,
Only Creator could save them all,
They need someone, they cannot stall.
Chorus
Who will… who will stop the snow?
Who will… who will stop the snow?
Verse 2
He’s gotta climb into the heavens,
Light years long … ten times eleven,
He’s gotta be good, he’s gotta be the best,
There’s only one chance to save the rest.
Old Gray Owl, clever and wise,
When sun shines, she can’t use her eyes,
Lonely Wolf is fast and bright,
But he ain’t blessed with the flight…
Chorus
So who… who will, stop the snow?
Oh who… who will, stop the snow?
Verse 3
There’s Rainbow Crow with colored coat,
Proud and strong, popular than most,
All the beasts admired his sound,
The song he sings is the best all around.
Chorus
I will… I will, stop the snow … (he declared)
I will… I will, stop the snow…
Verse 4
Through the clouds across the stars,
He flew and flew, way past Mars,
Finally he reached the gate,
“Creator, I hope I’m not too late”.
The great king smiled and asked what’s wrong,
But first I want to hear your song,
Rainbow Crow sang out so sweet,
A song of plea for the royal suite.
Chorus
Could you… could you stop the snow?
Could you… help us stop the snow?
Verse 5
Creator said to Rainbow Crow,
“This fire-stick will stop the snow,
But it’ll burn as soon as you leave,
So hurry now or there’ll be grief”,
The fire-stick burned by the day,
Sparks were flying this and that way,
Suddenly…smoke from the back,
He yelled so hard his voice-box cracked.
Chorus
Aiyoo! … I am burnin’ so… (caw…caw…caw)
Aiyoo! … I am burnin’ so!
Verse 6
While tongues of fire blackened his coat,
He saw afar the treacherous snow,
He dove at it with the fire-stick,
A thunderous sound! The snow was licked.
Chorus
Hooray! He has stopped the snow!
Hooray! He has stopped the snow!
Verse 7
SLOWLY
So today, the Crow is black,
So today, his song is cracked (caw…caw…caw)
He’s a scourge of society,
Unjust reward for his bravery?
Chorus
So who… who will, stop the snow? (next time)
So who… who will, stop the snow?
… And so it was …
