In mid 2007 I spent 3 months in Colombo, Sri Lanka as an International Team Leader in the country's National Distance Education Network (an Asian Development Bank project). Near the famous Galle Face Hotel is a boardwalk where young lovers go.

Story behind the song
They call them Umbrella Lovers, the famed lovers of Sri Lanka who use umbrellas to give them privacy...and they all go to the sea wall next to the Galle Face Hotel (the first ever hotel built in the Indian Ocean) in Colombo. When Stan was assigned there in 2007 to be the International Team Leader building the distance education network called Nodes (www.nodes.lk) for the Asian Development Bank and the Sri Lankan government, he saw this wonderful sight, and had to write about it! Here is the song that he finally finished! Ken Lee added the bridge.
Lyrics
Colombo Walk © Ken Lee & Stan Loh, Colombo, 12 May 2007 Verse 1 They come to the old Galle Face The beach of saree mist Armed with umbrella’s grace They hide their bashful kiss Chorus Down by Colombo Walk Watch the surf below They come to make sweet talk Let their feelings grow Down by Colombo Walk They all sit in a row Down by Colombo Walk Where all the lovers go Verse 2 Red ones blue ones plaid and green Tents of the camouflage Umbrellas make good screens Jump on the dreamers’ barge Bridge There they go, hand in hand, all romantic, Do you know they don’t see what is scenic? Instrumental Verse 3 Their pledges in the burning sand Racing from the waves Undaunted they will write again Messages that were saved Repeat Chorus
