Story behind the song
This song is based on a concept from a different George Chesser song, "We're Not Dead", which Rob and John had worked on with George. I based these lyrics on a conversation I had with Rob, who was obviously depressed at the time. The chorus, "I'm getting Older and Colder", was based on part of the chorus in George's song. When we played Georges song, Rob played drums and I played bass and the mood of the song was a bit more somber. When we recorded it, Jim had only played it one other time and his groove is much more upbeat...ironic considering the darker lyrical vibe.
Lyrics
Older and Colder When I was younger and my heart was full of gold I never stopped to worry that I would grow old But now I'm tired and the days all seem so long So long and Lonely I used to think I knew what's right and what should be Now I watch in wonder while the world confuses me I've done all that I can do and now I want to stop But Time won't let me I'm getting Older and Colder I'm getting Older and Colder I'm getting Older and Colder But I'm not dead, no, I'm not dead My heart is heavy now and my mind begins to freeze And I get chilled to the bone by a simple breeze I lie awake and I watch the moon Lord I feel so lost So lost and Lonely I'm so Lonely I'm getting Older and Colder I'm getting Older and Colder I'm getting Older and Colder But I'm not dead, no, I'm not dead
