Story behind the song
Sitting on couch with our Ashcat after practice one night, B2 played a guitar riff and the lyrics just came, I sat and sang along and wrote some stuff down, then, in a day or two, we finished what became 'Wanna Be 2', which is on the Ashcats Album 'Outdated and Overrated'. About a year later I was trying to put together some bluesy stuff and took these same lyrics, with a different approach and came up with 'Wanna Be', which we performed regularly along with a couple other originals whenever we played out. As I was working on my latest project, "Ultramegaclevercoolandgroovy", I stumbled upon these old drum tracks i had done several years ago using a friend's drums that were setup in my basement at the time. Back then I ditched the tracks cuz there were a couple spots that were off and cuz the breakdown in the middle and the ending were both a bit shorter than intended. I think when I recorded the tracks I probably had a metronome going in the headphones and I basically just played the drums from memory, with no accompaniment, which is rather difficult to do to begin with, and definitely makes for a somewhat stiffer, mechanical vibe in regards to tempo. At any rate I never got around to doing a descent version of the song in the meantime, so when I found the drum tracks I decided to use them for this project, which is supposed to be a whole album of me playing with my pretentious self.
