Nick Peay has found his place in music with an intense, soulful sound. Like a lot of the great acoustic musicians he focuses on meaningful, personal lyrics while backing them up with a fresh, enthusiastic sound. He recently added the harmonica which adds that folk energy that Dylan seems to own. There is no reason not to catch a Nick Peay show. He performs with a grace and confidence that seems far beyond his years. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Peay moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 18 to continue his education, but also to further his musical growth. He spent the next five years studying the craft of songwriting, from structure to form, words to melody and technical aspects of music and music theory. At the end of 2004, Peay returned to Louisville with his carefully honed craft of songwriting. While singer song writers often soften a crowd with whimsical acoustic songs, Peay mixes it up, creating an energy that is rare and more importantly very engaging. He writes extremely well, lending a little peak into his soul and still has you tapping your foot and singing along. A man with a sincere presence and great sense of humor make for a fascinating evening of lovely music. If you look a little deeper into his songs you will find not only personal pain and growth but a social and historical awareness that exposes his intellect and education, with such songs as ‘90 Day Wonder’ and ‘Paper America.’ Unlike many singer song writers every song from ‘Put This Bottle Down’ to ‘Talking Backward’ has its own unique sound, representing his fantastic vocal range and his creativity on the guitar and harmonica. Watching a musician sing and play so effortlessly is truly what is mesmerizing about this very talented young song writer. His songs give you the feeling you have known him for years and the parts of him that he does give us, in his vast selection of songs, are worth taking with you when you go. This is a musician to look out for, as he continues to explore his talent as a song writer and performer. The amount of great material he has already produced makes his future in this business a sure thing. Peay is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a major in Music Business. He has played and recorded with Louisville local Peter Searcy as well as Warren Ray. He has played in full bands but has dug his heels into being a singer song writer on his own. You can find his EP Sobering on CDBaby.com and he is currently working on a full length album called, “Photographs, Memories and Paper,” set for release in September, which you can sample on www.myspace.com/nickpeay.
