My feelings on the war, and the families that suffer because of it. Will not be on the album, maybe the next one...
Story behind the song
I have two brothers who serve in the armed forces. One is in the Navy and was on an aircraft carrier outside Iraq somewhere (not sure exactly where). The other is in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany flying on Cargo planes dropping supplies over Iraq. Both have families and children too. I never slept well wondering if my father was going to call me for a funeral, and the thought of my nieces and nephews growing up without daddy was horrifying.
Lyrics
I got a bad, bad feelin'
That we're goin' straight to hell
Sendin' our people out for suicide
All for a rich man's wishin' well
Babies, look away
Cause I just don't know what to say
The Man sent your daddy overseas
And he wont be comin' home again
Look at all the protesters
It's another Viet-Nam
But the real thing that's botherin' me
Is how could one man do so much wrong?
Babies, look away
Cause I just don't know what to say
The Man sent your daddy overseas
And now he wont be comin' home again
Hey there Mr. President
Is that blood money payin' bills?
Well I guess it's alright
After all, you said it's god's will
--don't know what god you're talkin' about though
Babies, look away
Cause I just don't know what to say
The Man sent your daddy overseas
And he wont be comin' home again
Babies, look away
Cause I just don't know what to say
The Man sent your daddy overseas
And now he wont be comin' home
Babies, look away
Cause I just don't know what to say
The Man sent your daddy overseas
And now he wont be comin' home again
And I got a bad, bad, feelin'
That we're goin' straight to hell
