With more than 300 songs and counting and for more than 30 years, I have written in a variety of acoustic styles from novelty tunes to love songs to historical ballads to poetic surrealistic songs to retro-acoustic pop. From bizarre to traditional from funny to poignant, whatever style the song is in, the melodies are usually memorable and the lyrics unpredictable. This site will eventually contain rough often first take demos of my entire song catalogue. Many of the earliest songs when I first started writing will of course be shaky. So expect the songs to get better as time goes on. Feel free to come back and browse often as I will constantly be adding songs, one by one in chronological order, starting in 1974. If you are looking for some unusual songs to cover from a little known but unique artist, you have come to the right place. Just e-mail me. If you find a song here that intrigues you, but you don't like a line or two, or you think it needs a bridge, drop me an e-mail and maybe you can earn writer's credit if it gets that song to be recorded or performed.... otherwise just enjoy. You can become a Rob Lincoln fan at no cost to you. I promise that if you keep coming back there will be some real surprises along the way. While mostly acoustic, some original material will veer into folk rock and even 60's pop, but the garage rock and loudest material will also be found in full band arrangement at soundclick.com/abrasiveflowers Eventually some of these 300+ tunes may be rerecorded and make it on to CD, including a novelty CD that would be suitable for Dr. Demento or an historical ballad CD or a political song CD--but until then, this is the only site you can hear most of these songs. (A few of my songs CAN be found on songramp.com/RobLincoln and myspace.com/lessickandlincoln)

Story behind the song
Job Well Done was written about the Persian Gulf War. My song title was lifted from the popular headline of the day used as the war concluded. The war accomplished so many wonderful things. Among them it enabled the use of advanced new weaponry in real combat situations. One such weapon I read about sucked oxygen from it's victims using a fiery explosion. Mp3 listeners gave it an average of 3.9. The only comment I received from this song was from a firend of mine in Israel: " In Job Well Done I could hear Pearl Jam doing it with some painful screams and grinding guitar-3.8 In Israel, of course, American intervention in dangerous areas in the middle east are often viewed differently than from the US. What war is to whose interest and at what cost -short term long term. Only arrogance would prompt me to say I am the bearer of the truth more than a grieving family." The only other comment recieved for this song was was "no comment." The song may have provoked and perhaps irritated a few listeners as it does not conform with most people's thinking. I'm surprised that despite this, it rated so well.
Lyrics
I heard a silence before the planes Felt it deep in my heart We are right it is our land that they take It is their war they start I can see my little Khalim With his toy gun running through the street It's getting dark It seems a dream There's a strange intensive heat Fire in the sky (4x) I feel a dryness in my throat I'm not going to cry Dug in deep I smell some smoke I will survive I see me and my brother Sharif Over Bagdad streets we play It's time for the mask to breath Allah give me one more day Fire in the sky (4x) Tell me why (3x) I feel the air being sucked from me Must get out I'll try What is this weopon they use cruelly I don't want to die I can see my sweet daughter's face I can see the old cypress tree I can see the whole human race Why can't they see me? Fire in the sky (4x) Tell me why (3x)
