A tune I actually wrote - it was a jingle demo for Hawaiian Electric Company's Aloha United Way drive kickoff.
...Just a working joe who happens to play a little guitar and tries to sing on pitch. Oh, and I live, work, and play in the bestest of the bestest place.
Story behind the song
I wrote this tune as a jingle demo for my company's Aloha United Way annual giving drive. It features Ruth Ann Fortuno on vocals. Personally I think the demo turned out a lot better than the final cut - they didn't want to use Ruth because she wasn't an employee. Oh well... Ruth, as you can probably tell is a trained vocalist. I know, it's pretty schmaltzy but that's what they wanted, lol. This song is copyrighted and is on file with the Library of Congress.
Lyrics
It's All About Love
Words and Music by Mark Yamamoto
Verse 1:
They say we're all related somehow
In Hawai'i that's so true
Our community, our ohana
One family through and through
If your brother or sister needed help
Would you turn and walk on out?
A little kokua along the way
That's what aloha's all about
Chorus:
It's all about love, it's straight from the heart
Helping others with a brand new start
It's all about love, a thing we all understand
Reaching out to lend a helping hand
When you give a little from your heart
It feels so good inside
We all need a little help sometime
And a friend to be our guide
It's all about love
Verse 2:
Hawai'i's such a special place and its people make it so
One ohana, one community
Working to make it grow
But there are folks out there who need our help
We could keep their dreams alive
A little aloha along the way
Could make their futures bright
Chorus (repeat and outro)
