Paper Cats is a lover's duo. We range through folk and anti-folk to rougher electrified rock and blues; Chris plays guitars--six string, twelve string, classical acoustic, electric, you name it--and Lauren mostly sings. Some of our work is Chris's solo guitar composition, some Lauren's solo ballads, but increasingly our work is collaborative, usually with Chris writing guitar parts and Lauren writing vocal parts. We are enjoying ourselves immensely.

Story behind the song
"All right, I can still be an angel with only a broken wing left, but if I lose that, we're going to have to talk, okay?" came to Lauren's mind as a neat image about blindness to faults in our loved ones, but from there it turned into a request for assurance--that when one of us does go completely off the rocker, we'll be patient. This is actually a Paper Cats rarity, as Lauren wrote not only the lyrics but the music (but not the guitar lead and solo--that is entirely of Chris's making!). As usual, though, when she writes music for the guitar, it's entirely comprised from variations on A, D, and E. The first two references are (1) the armless Venus de Milo, which is still gorgeous in spite of that, and (2) Andromeda, who was chained to a rock, at sea, to be eaten by a sea monster (and who presumably would be in just as much trouble if she was just tossed out there in chains for it).A raunchy little blues number that hopes your love will hang on once we've started into the tailspin.
Lyrics
Venus can still sway with her limbs gone to dust If Andromeda's at sea then she don't need no rock I can still be your angel statue, with my one broken wing, but if I lose the other one, we gonna' have to talk 'Cause I just want to know if you'll still love me when I'm broken, when I'm One-wing wheeling. Can you tell me, when is stained really not clean enough? How will I know when the dirty rain'll pit my stone? But I think that you'll still love me, when the cracks run too deep, When the flesh is gone, you'll still carry my bones But I just want to know if you'll still love me when I'm dirty, when I'm One-wing wheeling. Say you love me 'cause I'm quirky, 'cause I'm kind and 'cause I'm dirty, 'cause I see a little diff'rent and I think it's kind of pretty, Let me know that if I start paying a bit too much attention to the things the glass is saying to the water, you'll take pity 'Cause I just want to know if you'll still love me when I'm crazy, when I'm One-wing wheeling
