A song of hope for an aging population
songwriter acoustic ballads blues keyboards 12 string dan matheny
Solo act playing original and cover material on 12-string and keyboards. Available for booking in Central Oklahoma.
I have been playing and writing songs for more years than most of you have been alive. I started classical piano when I was 8, 12-string guitar when I was ten, and wrote my first song when I was 16. I am largely self-taught, but have benefitted greatly from the many bands I've played with over the years. I've also been an avid listener of music, and sought to incorporate many different styles into my songwriting. As you will hear, my songs reflect the fact that I've been many places and done many things other than just play music. They have, in the original sense of the word, character.

Story behind the song
I was playing keyboards at the Boise Blues Society, and noticed that most of the musicians and their spouses or mates, like me, had grown older. Yet, they had grown more patient, and quietly more optimistic about the future. In other words, having seen the world had not ended in the last twenty years, we shouldn't expect that the next twenty will be any different.
Lyrics
In a day or so I'll call you, In a week or more we'll see. A year from now we'll make it somehow Just you wait and see. I can tell we're both getting older, Our hands are tired and dirty. Ten years from now we'll be better off somehow, Just you wait and see. And no I'm not afraid of dyin' And no I don't want to leave But if my heart can stand the pain Here is where I long to be. There's a mile or more between us, there's a mile or more to go. You know too well we can never quite fail Just you wait and see.
