Story behind the song
I believe this collaboration to be providential. I fell in love with Kaley's melody which she composed after reading the Garden account. I was so moved by the melody, I then wrote the lyrics. We collaborated together on the lyrics a bit further, hence the outcome.
Lyrics
“Gethsemane”
(c)2007 Kaley Willow
(c)2008 Lynn Orloff/Kaley Willow
A garden long ago,
Bathed in a moonlit glow,
A peaceful place where silence would be broken,
Jesus fell on His knees,
God heard the prayer He breathed,
My Father will you take this cup away from me.
It was His time to die,
And as the hour drew nigh,
His fervent prayers continued without ceasing,
Though there was watch to keep,
Disciples fell asleep,
The fate of all humanity just hours away.
Bridge:
Gethsemane, the garden echoes,
Echoes each plea, Gethsemane,
The weight of mankind's sin,
Came crushing down on Him,
Garden of prayer, Gethsemane, Gethsemane.
The soldiers came with swords,
A kiss betrayed the Lord,
But Jesus struggled not as He was led away/But Jesus willingly was led away
He saw past Calvary,
He saw eternity,
He'd give His life to take my sins and set me free,
He'd give His life to show how deep a love can be.
This is a song that would be a great fit for churches to use during the season just before Easter, such as for a Good Friday service. I enjoyed listening-- the lyrics and melody go very well together.
