Story behind the song
As adopted children always like to rediscover their roots my adopted native daughter returned to Canada from Scotland in 1994 with her 4 year old daughter and her Scots husband. I visited her in 96 then after having retired in 2002 I too moved back to Canada to live near her and her 2 daughters. I'd written songs for my 4 grandchildren in Scotland before leaving and then I wrote ones for my grandchildren in Canada.
Lyrics
Grace was my Mother and Charlie was my Dad.
You carry both names and that makes me so glad.
You bridge two proud cultures. You’re much loved in them both.
God bless you, Charley, through all your life’s growth.
When I call you: Penny bunny, you seem to think it’s funny.
You make a funny crack and call me bunny back.
We laugh and play together, in fair or blust’ry weather.
As a friend of Winnie Pooh, guess that I can be a
bunny too - or maybe Eeyore.
