The New Sunrise (Falling Heroes)
A 'Who-esque' sound in my head with the Ry O'Banshee choir.
Do It Yourself Alternative
Since receiving his first guitar at age 12 (a 1965 Silvertone) Ryan has been writing and playing music for his personal enjoyment for more than 30 years. After years of putting his music on assorted cassettes (and a 8 year layoff to take care of career and kids) Ryan put Pro Tools on an old computer in the back bedroom and began writing, playing and recording music again. It's a life-long hobby for him.
Ryan plays guitar, bass and keyboards and uses a drum machine for the beats.
Story behind the song
The song is inspired by Pete Townshend ... thus the homage to him in the introl. I was listening to Bargain and loved the lyric "I'd gladly lose me to find you" that opens the song. I wanted to write a song like that. I laid down the instrumental first but, the words came to me very slowly. Finally, thanks to my eight-year-old daughter, I came up with the first line. Once I got the cadence I was looking for down, the words then pretty much flowed from that. The lyric: "Your opportunity to prove you’re around" was inspired by an article I read about the actor Joe Pantoliano (played the character Ralphie in the Sopranos as well as many other films like the Matrix, Risky Business and Eddie and the Cruisers) who said he started acting because he wanted someone 100 years from know to know he existed. The middle piece was inspired by Queen, Led Zeppelin and my kid's holiday chorus concert. Go figure.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I don’t know what to do, because of you
The secret I’m keeping just can’t be true
I’m lost and lonely
I’m trying so hard
To get over this, but I'm dealt the wrong card
I don’t know what to do, because of you
Give me a say, I’ve come a long, long way
Tick tock on the wall comes another day
This is my moment
Gonna make it mine
An opportunity for us to shine
Give me a say, I’ve come a long, long way
Refrain
(You're my memory)
Up in the sky
The world goes by
As I look out my window
(You're my ecstasy)
Sudden cloud burst
To quench my thirst
Here comes more falling heroes
(You're my every day)
I can’t decide
The eyes that hide
The silence that you’re seeking
(You're my only way)
I realize
The new sunrise
When you walk through the door
Verse 2
I climbed on your back, gone across the tracks
Looked ‘em in the eye and pushed them back
There’s something about me
That’s disappeared
Trying to find it, even though it’s near
I climbed on your back, gone across the tracks
Give me angels’ wings and a voice to sing
A song that’s just about everything
The time that’s passing
As the world goes ‘round
Your opportunity to prove you’re around
Give me angels’ wings and a voice to sing
Verse 3
Your voice echoes loudly inside my ears
You have to speak up to cut through my fears
The words you say
So crystal clear
Shakes and wakes me in the dark of the night
Your voice echoes loudly inside my ears
The soldiers move forward into the fight
Like a swarm of moths drawn into the light
Check their signals
No wrong or right
Deliver the blow with all of their might
The soldiers move forward into the fight
Verse 4
I climbed on your back, gone across the tracks
Looked ‘em in the eye and pushed them back
There’s something about me
That’s disappeared
Trying to find it, even though it’s near
I climbed on your back, gone across the tracks
I don’t know what to do, because of you
The secret I’m keeping just can’t be true
I’m lost and lonely
I’m trying so hard
To get over this, but dealt the wrong card
I don’t know what to do, because of you
