He’s on a deadline and she’s looking round for some friend to come save her
A corner to sleep in
Avoiding his eyes, she’s folding her arms with her legs turned away to the side
He’s speaking visual so she goes for auditory
Just to confirm “there’s no building rapport with me here”
Now she’s making eyes at a twice-married guy
And she’s guiding their chat like a pro
While he stirs his coffee and mumbles
Well she’s on some neuro-linguistic desire for control
And she picks on the fact that he lives in the past
And she’s framing responses to match
He feels attracted but slightly confused as he looks from his cup through his dilated pupils
And what I’d call chemistry, you’d call art and design
And what I’d call sparkling’s just an intricate plan, mapped in advance
And for every sign I project
There’s a magazine columnist there, telling you what to do next
Losing the plot in a cold office block in her suffering manager’s gaze
Trying to subtly programme his thoughts, but forgot he was there when she studied the course
As their dialogue winds through a battle of minds, left and the right brains collide
Their mirroring postures and unblinking eyes spiral out of control until they’re both hypnotised
