Story behind the song
The facts behind this song would make you think it was a story! This is the truth and I am the most intimate with this song and it's birth. I was working as a recording engineer for MCDM (Mista Clean Da Masta) studios in a converted warehouse in Hapeville Ga. just outside Atlanta. George (Mista Clean with C not a K) Sims and ifeel'em Corey (Da Masta) Wilson were running the place. Clean had the Gospel/R&B side (studio A) where I was engineer. Da Masta had the Hip-Hop/Crunk/Rap side (studio B). CLean and Da Masta had been working very hard to get a full production studio up for some time and Da Masta seemed to be ahead with his style at the time. Clean really wanted to push hard on the Gospel and there just did'nt seem to be a whole of Gospel coming out of there. I remember Clean coming in one afternoon and stopped in to see me and said "I got this song that popped into my head last night and I get it out of my mind. He hummed out a few bars and he said "well let's write a song together RIGHT NOW !). I replied SURE ! I cranked up the keyboard, kept in simple on a modified I IV V progression, medium tempo 4/4 beat. Tracked it analog and saved into ProTools... and that was it. George asked me if would be o.k. for him get into the booth and sing to it. I told him that it's his studio and you have every right do whatever you want and I would be glad to track the vocals. Clean gets into the booth and shuts off all the lights so it was pitch black. He had written cown a few verses and a chorus... but it didn't matter he could not see his notepad anyways! I played the track a few times and he got warmed up, we did three re-takes just on the first few bars and I thought this might be an all-nighter! On the forth take.... is exactly what your hear now. Rev. Georgia Joe Gadson hear's Clean and I doing a quick mixdown and comes into the door with vocalist Q'rious ... both of them interested in what thye hear. Clean turns to Ga. Joe as tells him to throw a few guitar licks on the track and for Q'rious to stack some backgroud vocals on the chorus. Long story short - all the artists walked in a did it RIGHT NOW on one takes and we just kept it simple - Feels Good!
